Early Plans for a Gravity Rush 10th Anniversary Fanzine

If you’ve been following us on Twitter you may have noticed the recent discussion about making a Gravity Rush fanzine to celebrate the 10th and 5th anniversaries of Gravity Rush 1 and 2 next year! The original tweet by Clumsy Camelid (who also worked on a few articles for Gravity Rush Central in the past) that sparked the discussion can be found here:

The mods on the r/gravityrush Discord have recently also created a channel called the “#10th-anniversary-fanzine” for users to discuss the idea of a Gravity Rush fanzine. If you’d like to more about the fanzine or perhaps are interested in helping out, you can join the discussion on the Discord via this link: https://discord.gg/3gpSqkQ8VQ. That said, we also intend to hold a survey to get more feedback from people, so you don’t have to be afraid of missing out if you’re not on the Discord server.

Heya everyone! Wanted to give a quick update about the 10th Anniversary Fanzine and where things currently stand. Credit to Cpt_Barricade for summarizing and writing up these points:

  • We will continue research on ‘zines and best practices during March. We believe that a “charity-zine” best aligns with our goals as this is a labour of love more than anything.
  • We aim to have the first survey out by the end of March and distribute it via social media and the GR Central Twitter. We’d love all of your help in spreading the word about this so sharing will be greatly appreciated. As GR is a global community we are actively looking for ways to make this survey accessible for everyone.
  • If the interest is there, we continue work behind the scenes. That includes looking for digital retailers to host a digital version, further research into physical merchandise like pins, stickers, potentially a music album with songs from the community that are inspired from the GR world (starting goal is for this to be digital, with a potential physical release).
  • We’ll create a Call for Artists/Creators survey, likely around the same time once interested is confirmed. Anybody in the community can apply. It will be open for X months and will ask what you would like to contribute (art, music, writing etc.), if you have a preferred character, examples of your portfolio, IF YOU’D LIKE TO ASSIST IN MAKING THE ‘ZINE A REALITY etc.
  • Once the submission period ends the ‘zine team will review the submissions and select the candidates. For the digital ‘zine we might be able to include more contributions, however a physical book will be locked at the amount of pages chosen. Artists will be given X pages/a theme/character(s), and the freedom to orchestrate what they want within those restrictions.
  • This is our first attempt at making a ‘zine. So please be mindful of that. We want to make this the best experience ever, but need to be mindful of various pitfalls and unforeseen risks. Our goal is to make a fantastic digital ‘zine and music album at minimum, with physical merchandise as a secondary goal (that we all really want).

Important things to note:

  • Currently the ‘zine team is made up of Clumsy Camelid, Cpt_Barricade, Draikin, and T aka SubstanceofGravity. Each of us bring unique expertise to the table, however one crucial skill we are in need of is an art director for the ‘zine. Somebody who has a knack for magazine design and can create a cohesive start-to-finish ‘zine experience with a GR flair.
  • Funny story as to why this announcement was made hurriedly: The idea for an anniversary ‘zine actually originated from two independent areas: 1) Substance had been researching the possibility of a GR ‘zine for ~2 years by themself 2) Without knowledge of this, the same idea sprung up during this conversation where we brainstormed ways of getting the GR community to come together. A few days later Substance started their independent ‘zine project and we were all very confused. After some discussion we all agreed to join forces and begin working toward making the best ‘zine possible! That’s why the survey isn’t ready yet, sorry!
  • We aim to have the first survey out by the end of March and distribute it via social media and the GR Central Twitter. We’d love all of your help in spreading the word about this so sharing will be greatly appreciated. As GR is a global community we are actively looking for ways to make this survey accessible for everyone.
  • If you want to know more, feel free to check in on the #10th-anniversary-fanzine channel, or to message myself or any of other leads mentioned in this post!
